Reference: The Heropath

Our journey is known as the heropath.

Joseph Campbell (1904-1987) aptly described the path in his book The Hero With a Thousand Faces:

We have not even to risk the adventure alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us; the labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have only to follow the thread of the heropath. And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence; where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world.

Sun Singer,

In my business, I see a lot of self-important folks who think they’re heroes when all they did was sing a song, knock a baseball over the fence or take off all their clothes in front of a camera.

Most of the real heroes don’t know they’re heroes. They’re too busy to think about the fine points.

Everyone else? Best I can tell, they think that whatever journey they’re on, they’re going it alone. And, if you ask them about accomplishing great things, they’ll say those things are over their heads.

My Christmas wish is that more people will start waking up and learn how to dance without looking at their feet.
