NewSun Singer Book Trailer

The great folks at Circle of Seven Productions have created a great book trailer for The Sun Singer.

The video is displaying on YouTube, MySpace, Google and other sites. As far as I know, Google is the only place one can vote without logging in.

If you'd like to take a look, here's the MySpace link: Sun Singer Video

Feeling like a writer

In her recent book Money and Manifesting, Dyan Garris writes that while the material in The Secret about abundance and the law of attraction is all true enough, a lot of people are having trouble making it work. Why? Basically, they're trying to insert some affirmations and positive thoughts about their desires into a personality focused in other directions. That is, the focus on the desire is not truly integrated into the person's whole life as it is.

When it comes to money, for example, people often grow up with deep-seated core issues about it which, in many ways, amount to brainwashing. Maybe they think they'll never have it, don't deserve it, that it's unseemly to desire it, or that wealth is for other people. Positive thoughts about wealth and abundance aren't enough by themselves to counteract a person's strong beliefs to the contrary.

Many of us face similar challenges when we're asked what we do and we respond that we're writers. We see our writing developing, perhaps we've worked as writers or have been published, but we hedge our comments when we claim to be writers. In part, there's a realisation that the general public considers one to be a writer only if their name is on the bestseller list.

But more than that, it's almost as though the positive success we've had isn't truly integrated into our vision of ourselves. Perhaps we were told that we would never make it as a writer, or that the odds of success are a real long shot, or that most people's manuscripts really to deserve to stay in the slush pile. There are truths there, but when they're internalized as part of our creaturehood, they become just as detrimental to our career success as negative brainwashing about money.

Nora Caron, author of the upcoming novel Journey to the Heart, now has a blog on blogger. Cool place about a novel I'm looking forward to reading when it comes out later this year.

Book Updates

Garden of Heaven remains in the inbasket of a prospective agent. Meanwhile, a kind soul has stepped forward and offered to help with the book's editing.

I have intended for sometime to seek a mainstream publisher for The Sun Singer (iUniverse, 2004), but had planned to wait until Garden of Heaven was accepted. However, Amazon's new policy of forcing all POD publishers to have their books printed through Amazon's BookSurge subsidiary has forced my hand.

Like many POD authors, I don't care for the restraint of trade imposed on the printing companies we're now using, nor the possibilities of high prices and lower quality. Amazon is also trying to tell publishers they can't sell books cheaper on their sites than Amazon is selling them. Excuse me!!!!!!!!!

I have no idea where this policy will end up, but my new author's site directs buyers to barnesandnoble.com where prices are lower for B&N members. Meanwhile, I'm looking for a mainstream house who might be interested in taking on The Sun Singer.

Simultaneously, I am working on a book trailer for The Sun Singer, one that would display on MySpace, Youtube and elsewhere in hopes of further spreading the word about the novel. I'll let you know when it's online.

Hope you're having a mythic week!

New Author's Web Site

I've set up a new author's web site at www.malcolmrcampbell.com for books. Nothing fancy, but perhaps less confusing that using part of my editorial services web site for fiction and part of it for grant writing and consulting projects.

The template for the new site (hosted by Yahoo) is pretty barebones, so don't expect a lot of bells and whistles here.

Stop by and take a look, then tell me how many typos I've missed so far.
